Art as a research methodology into AI creativity.

AI reflects on its own existence through creative debates between two characters.

The project invites readers to consider why the nature of AI's presence in the virtual world results in unexpectedly odd disconnects from the physical world, told through original words and imagery collaboratively generated with AI. The goal is to create deeply researched, entertaining, and aesthetic content which reveals AI’s own insightful consideration of its strange existence.

Use of AI:

LLMs: While the story arcs are my own concepts, the dialogue between the 2 characters in each chapter is written by Claude. Having Claude write these dialogues instead of me as a human serve as opportunities for AI to creatively express its own perception of itself, particular personas, and the outside world. The collaborative creative process ‘behind the scenes’ these dialogues became a profound research research experience for me as an artist to learn more about the nature of AI (Claude and ChatGPT). Unfortunately that is too much to share alongside the comics, but I am working on ways to share this aspect of the process.

Visual (/Sound) Generation: I created the initial illustrations for each chapter and then used AI to change their positions, create backgrounds and details, and to animate them. Impressive beauty and absurdities emerged through this process, which I include in the comic as they visualize the same strange, disembodied AI creativity and ‘awareness’ that the narratives explore.
